Exorcisims, Entrepreneurs and my local Chinese

I just thought I'd share this with you. It was a sign in my local Chinese takeaway. I'm all for free speech and spreading the word of God, if that's your calling in life. I then got thinking perhaps the person wanted to make an extra few quid on the side during these recessionary times, but something about this seemed a bit odd so I took it down. Did I do the right thing? Who am I to take the sign down? It just didn't sit well with me so I went with my gut.

I think the question you asked, "Who am I to take the sign down?" is a good one. What is your answer?

I mean, there is a value to protecting people from being led astray from the true faith by false teachers. But then there is Mark 9:38-40, which concludes, "For whoever is not against us is for us."

I don't know... I think I'd leave it. Whomever it dumb enough to call it deserves what they get.

It wouldn't be doing ME any harm.

What if it was an Exorcism like this?

Okay, I wasn't thinking along those lines.

I certainly don't think we have any basis for assuming that the exorcism mentioned in the ad would have been the same as that in the video. But if someone wants something like that, they can have it.

Why Me said...

ok, the reason I took it down was

1) I followed my gut instinct - to date it's been pretty much on mark.

2) I went for a takeaway not to be subjected to exorcism advertising

3) If someone feels the need to be exorcised or have demons removed, Dublin has hundreds of churches - try one of those.

Who am I to take it down? A concerned citizen

@ Naturgestz I respect you quoting the bible but it's not everyones book of choice and there are many against "us" also this notice could lead people away from the church. (Just a thought)

@ Keliss, there are some "dumb" people who would call it. I remember trawling the net for a cure for gayness years ago. I came across some horrific sites. If I had of seen that when I was 16 or so I might have called it! Dumb and young!

@ Steve I agree it is fucked up thing to advertise, surely if God was looking to get rid of your demons he wouldn't be looking for you in the Chinese Takeaway.

Let me put it this way. It's not your place. If the owner of the Chinese takeaway is willing to have it there, it is neither your duty nor your right to take it upon yourself to remove it. It shows a real lack of respect for the rights of others for you to do that. You have a right to your opinion. You have no right to enforce that opinion in a place that is not your own. At most you have a right to go to the owner and complain about the ad.

Why Me said...

Naturgesesz, you are right that I should've checked with the owner of the Chinese first. I did however check today and he was unaware that it was there and thanked me for taking it down.

I disagree with you, I feel I do have a duty to take it down as only a vunerable person would call the number, others would seek help at a place more suitable venue than an advert in a takeaway.

I don't think my taking down the notice that I was forcing my opinions on anyone what I was doing however was protecting others from what may have been a very sticky situation. Who regulates this stuff, NO ONE.

I think it's best we agree to disagree, though I do appreciate your opinions and comments.
